Bob was an Ice Monster created by The Dark Magician. Along with Joe, a fellow ice monster, he patrols the Icy Spikes region near the Dark Magician's Castle in an alternate universe.

When Xaq, a human from Earth, came through the Icy Spikes region, he at first attempted to sneak past Bob and Joe. When they caught him, he spoke to them and convinced them to join his cause by pointing out that their master, the Dark Magician, treats them poorly and doesn't pay them, and that they don't have to work for him if they don't want to.
From that point on, they joined Xaq's party. They helped him convince monsters they met later to also join the party, and ultimately helped him confront The Dark Magician. ("The Dark Magician's Castle")
