Dominique was a woman who lived in Nevada, taking care of horses. She had a bird named Squawks who would sit on her hat.

At some point, Dominique got a hat that had a portal in it. She thought it was best not to mind it, since it was a good hat. However, unbeknownst to her, the hat had a portal to The Shadow Realm. Strange events happened after that, such as her truck's engine disappearing.
She met Xaq after he appeared on her ranch via a portal; he discovered that something was wrong, and by talking to the cacti nearby, he was able to figure out that the distortions are coming from Dominique herself. Upon further questioning, he realized that her hat had a portal in it, which was the source of the trouble. He advised her to stay away from the hat, and dove into the portal.
