Hat kid's friend isn't very adventurous, in fact anything besides going home he thinks is "kind of risky". some of his least favorite things include: Exploring caves filled with zubats and walking by houses infested with crazed echidnas. i think its safe to say that the hat kids friend is more trouble than the actual puzzle.
History[]
He was with Hat Kid when the two discovered a cave full of Zubats. Hat Kid wanted to enter, but hat Kid's Friend thought it was "kinda risky". He hesitated at every step of the adventure, but once the two had made it all the way into the cave over his objections, they were doomed with no way out. Finally, Hat Kid saved game to before they entered the cave, and just walked away and went home, following Hat Kid's Friend's advice. ("The Zubat Cave")

At some point, Hat Kid's Friend lived in a house in The Shadow Realm. There, he met Xaq, who'd been turned into a snail. He had a magic potion which would help him, but it was up on a shelf, so he thought it was "kinda risky" to climb up there to get it. Ultimately, Xaq got the potion without his help.
