The Great Mouth was a religious figure of the Figs. It's a gigantic being with a humanoid mouth. The rest of its body cannot be seen. Little is known of the true nature of the Great Mouth, except that the Figs are devoted to feeding it. They remain on sticks until they receive the "honor" of being eaten, which is more than they deserve according to their culture. ("Chrome Training: The New Recruit")
