Madam Pavlova is a psychic medium. She was the trusted advisor of Elspeth Marple, who she often gave psychic readings to.

She attempted to contact the spirit of Albert Buttocksthorne, the deceased husband of Mrs. Buttocksthorne, Elspeth's dog. Elspeth believed that his death was a murder. Pavlova contacted him, and she saw a vision of a man called the "Captain" standing over a dog who's not Albert, with a knife in his hand. ("Diner")
