Pen, or Pluma in Spanish, seems at first glance to be an ordinary pen but is actually a sentient creature. Needless to say, he’s much more evolved than the rest of his kind. He’s the sidekick of Charles, the detective, and often has the answer to most of Charles’ problems. Unfortunately, he speaks only Spanish, thus making communication between them difficult.
The Pen was first seen resting on a drawer in Charles’ hospital room. When Charles attempted to pick him up, he resisted. This surprised Charles, who took a few minutes to fully realize that the Pen was alive.
From there, the Pen accompanies Charles through the rest of Death Ward hospital, helping him to escape. When Alexander joined the party, he was able to partly translate, but Alexander’s psychoses got in the way. ("Welcome to Death Ward Hospital")
